ufotable ~ Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Blu-ray boxset I - announce & tokuten

The blu-ray boxset of ufotable's adaptation of Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] was announced on the 24th Oct. I was too busy to talk about it then but now I have a little time so I'll talk a little about it. :) The set will go on sale on the 25th March 2015 but can be pre-ordered right now.

CM 2 (source)

This set will contain the first cour which would be episodes #01- #12 as well as episode #00. Both #00 and #01 are 1-hour episodes and cover the same time period, except that #00 is from Tohsaka Rin's point of view and #01 is from Emiya Shirou's point of view.  The suggested retail price is 39,000 yen (not including sales tax)

The set will contain 6 Discs.  5 Blu-rays and 1 CD in a digipak
The 5 BDs will contain 13 episodes (#00 ~ #12)
The CD will contain the soundtrack.
The main composer for the soundtrack is Fukusawa Hideyuki but what is of interest to Kajiura Yuki fans is that she's been listed as a guest composer in all episodes that have screened to date.  At the time of writing, it's 5 episodes.  Ufotable's page on the BD releases also states that the OST CD will include music by Fukusawa and guest composer Kajiura Yuki.  So Kajiura Yuki completist may want to take note of this. :)

Other bonuses include a new novel written by Nasu Kinoko, the original writer of the visual novel that FSN is based on.  This will include illustrations by Takeuchi Takashi who, along with Nasu Kinoko, is one of the co-founders of TYPE-MOON and I think he was responsible for the character designs for FSN and has also done a ton of illustrations not just for FSN but also other titles for TYPE-MOON including my personal favourite, Kara no Kyoukai.

Takeuchi Takashi's illustration will also grace the boxset's cover.

A 50 page special booklet will also be included.  This booklet will contain staff interviews and other production materials.  Well, if we go by ufotable's previous releases, e.g. the Kara no Kyoukai: Mirai Fukuin BD release for example, then we're probably going to get stuff like a story summary, a few pages of the storyboard, a few pages on the character design, several art-boards, key visuals etc. Really nice stuff for folks who like that sort of thing.

Bonus video clips will also be included in one of the BDs.  They include a collection of trailers and various promotional videos, a collection of TV Spots will also be included and these will include the full set of specific character CMs that were aired.  They will also include the BD Box announcement but they didn't say if they'll include just one or both of them.  Currently, they have released two BD Box announcements.  They will also include a text-less Opening and a text-less Ending.

There are some tokutens being offered that look quite interesting.

CDJapan is offering a CDJapan exclusive tote bag with the purchase of the Blu-Ray box set.  They will also send out a A3 tapestry with an illustration by Takeuchi Takashi.  Both tokutens will be given out on a first-come-first-served basis. SOURCE  The A3 tapestry is the tokuten that most, if not all, shops will get while the tote bag is the actual CDJapan exclusive tokuten.

The product page links aren't up on CDJapan yet but they are already up on their Japan neowing site... strange.  I guess I'll probably update this post when it gets posted.
updated 11th Nov:
CDJapan has finally listed this on their website.  So if the tote bag is something that interest you, you can think about getting it from them.  Here is the product page link:
Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Blu-ray Disc Box I Limited Edition

As is often the case, Aniplex+ get special tokutens too.  Aside from the pre-order bonus of an A3 tapestry with an illustration by Takeuchi Takashi, they are also offering something called "Opening Animation Original Picture Duplication set".  And yes, I did translate that quite inelegantly. :P  They don't have a picture of the item uploaded yet but it'll probably be similar to what was given out as an Aniplex+ exclusive tokuten for the Aldnoah.Zero BD/DVD vol.1 set.

Aside from that, those who pick up the set from them will also get a "illustrated canvas art".  Again, I'm not sure what it is, maybe an illustration printed on canvas?  Maybe something like this? click me. I've never ordered from Aniplex+ before but I don't think they ship internationally.  I think they do have some partnerships with some sites outside of Japan but if you're interested in the Aniplex+ tokutens, you might have to hunt around for a bit or use a proxy buyer service.

Amazon Japan has two versions with two different types of tokutens on offer.  The first version is just the box-set with the A3 size tapestry that everyone else is getting as a pre-order bonus.  CLICK ME.  The other version, which is more expensive, comes with a few tokutens.  This alternate version not only gets the A3 tapestry, it also gets a B1 size cloth poster which will be something similar to this CLICK ME, I think.  That's not all, it also get a CD size steel case which is thick enough to carry two discs.

Ami Ami, like Amazon Japan, also offers two versions.  One comes with just the A3 size tapestry.  The other comes with additional canvas art, which is an Ami Ami exclusive.  My guess is that this canvas art and the canvas art that Aniplex+ is offering has different illustrations printed on it.  Ami Ami does ship internationally, so it maybe easier to order from them instead of Aniplex+ if the canvas art is something you're interested in.

The best place to purchase this though is always from ufotable themselves.  You can purchase it from one of their cafes, or their cinema or their restaurant or their webshop.  All of which is a huge pain in the ass or quite impossible for international fans to accomplish, unfortunately. I've never attempted to purchase from their webstore before, so although I can't be 100% sure, I'm almost certain that they won't ship internationally. :(  If you get it from ufotable themselves, you'll get 4 tokutens!!! source  Looks like you'll get:
1) a Fate/stay night Coffee Gallery Original Drawings Collection.  I think this should be a collection of illustrations that were collected during the Fate/stay night themed cafe at the ufotable cafes.
2) #00 & #01 Storyboard Collection  *the storyboard collection has more than 500 pages, the Coffee Gallery is a 100 pages
3) an autographed big postcard with hand-signed autographs from either Miura Takahiro (director), Sudou Tomonori (character design), Tabata Hisayuki (character design) or Eto Koji (Art Direction). The signed postcards will be random. There is some small print there but I can't really read it, unfortunately.
4) and this is for those who purchase both boxset vol.1 and vol.2, they'll get a box that can contain both volumes.   I think those who get it from ufotable themselves will also get the A3 tapestry pre-order bonus that all stores seem to be offering but I can't be sure about this.

If I could afford it, I would definitely get it from ufotable themselves.  Their tokutens are really awesome but international shipping would probably be painful and I doubt if they ship to international addresses anyway.  It would be nice to own this set but I will wait to see if there is a US release to see if I can affor this yet. The US release will come with English subs which is nice.  While I did purchase all the Madoka Magica LE BDs directly from Japan without subs, I did it because I wanted to support those who were involved in the production of the anime and also because I wanted original copies of Kajiura Yuki's soundtrack CDs and also because at that point in time I didn't know there would be a US release.

Anyway, for those who want to purchase this, you'll have time to think about it because the set won't be released till March 2015. :)  There may be other types of tokutens available but it's pretty late and I should go to sleep because I have not fully recovered yet and I rather not crash and burn at work later in the day. :P  So for now... oyasumi. :)
