=(

Sigh... my computer just died on me. :(  Lucky I have next day on-site warranty.  Yay.  I will lose at least 1 1/2 days of work because tech only comes down sometime tomorrow.  I'm hoping it's just a problem with the power supply.

And for the record... so far I think Dell customer service is pretty darn good.  Let's hope my hard drives are okay and my data is not corrupted.  And I was on a roll too and would probably have finished the Final Project by Friday, and finished the breakdown over the weekend.

No pictures today... I am grumpy. =(

Dell computer service in the US is (was?) great -- in Malaysia less so. Replaced my old Dell computer a couple of years back with a Lenovo -- touch wood, have not regretted that decision.

Good luck with getting your Dell computer repaired!

Hi hi YTSL,

Thank you for wishing me luck. The tech came and it was the power supply that got shorted out. Now I'm back up and running again. :) Whew... I was worried that it would be more serious.

I have parts warranty so I'm not worried if any of the other parts had died... EXCEPT for the hard drives. If my data hard drive had fried along with the power supply, I would be banging my head on the wall because that would mean losing not just files from this Final Project but also files from my previous two VFX projects.

I will need to be less lazy and begin backing up religiously like I used to.

And yeah, DELL is great in Singapore. At least, all I've ever had from them is great service. Previously, about 4 years back, I bought a laptop from them and the battery died a few months after I got it. They sent over a replacement battery the very next day. I was super impressed.

As for Apple's service in Singapore. So far, it's the worst I've encountered. Maybe they are okay on the iPhone front, I don't know. But at my old company, it took us almost 6 months, tons of phone calls which bounced us to India and then Australia, me running hours of test and wiping out the OS several times and finally my boss yelling bloody murder at them over the phone just to get a tech to come down on-site. And the best part about all this... my company paid quite a bit for Apple Care.

Hence, for now, I am a loyal Dell customer. :) Dell's service in Malaysia isn't good? Really? That's too bad. :( Hmmmm... I'm pretty sure the Dell's are assembled in Malaysia and then shipped to Singapore for Singapore customers.

K... I'm off to backup EVERYTHING to an external hard drive. :)

my laptop died too..and I am SOOO glad I extended my warranty for hardware and on site service...i tot it was just the adapter..but it was more serious than that..anyway, the engineer came to my office twice and repaired nearly my whole laptop..am contemplating extending my warranty for another two years..but have to pay S$300+..ouch!

Hi hi sunsetrose, wow... lucky you have extended warranty cuz if not, you'll have to get a new laptop and you may not even be able to get the data off your comp. Not sure if you want to extend the warranty on your current laptop though. Maybe after a year or year and a half, you may think of replacing the laptop for a newer model?
