Hello fellow Tong Yao fans! Apologies for the delay, but I'm finally catching up on the announcement from late January about Tong Yao's role in The Miracles 奇迹. This also gives me a good excuse to update her filmography.

CCTV announced on January 21st that they are partnering with the Shenzhen Municipal Publicity Department to create The Miracles, a collection of short dramas celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and its incredible journey from a small border town into a modern international metropolis. The CMG and Shenzhen Municipal Publicity Department believe that Shenzhen exemplifies Chinese modernization and the pursuit of a better life, and they're aiming to gather stories from around the world to commemorate this transformative journey.

For Tong Yao fans, the exciting part is that she'll be starring alongside the ever-popular Hu Ge in the first series of The Miracles. This isn't the first time Tong Yao has worked with Hu Ge. Nineteen years ago, a very young Tong Yao had a small role in The Young Warriors 少年杨家将 where she played Pan Ying, a young woman who wanted to possess a man that she "loved" by any means possible. This man was played by Hu Ge.

The director is Shen Yan, a highly respected director known for The First Half of My Life 我的前半生 and the scriptwriter is Liang Zhenhua, another well known name who is known for One Dream One Home 澳门人家. This won't be Tong Yao's first collaboration with Shen Yan. She was a guest star in The Examination for Everyone 大考 and had a cameo in The Heart of Genius 天才基本法 before starring in Si Xi 四喜 which is in post-production.  Liang Zhenhua is the Chief Screenwriter for With Love With You 有你的时光里 which is currently being released and stars Tong Yao.

The anthology will revolve around the core concept of "Miracle," showcasing Shenzhen's remarkable changes over the past 45 years and its future potential. It will delve into the lives of the people behind these miracles, telling the vivid stories of the city and its residents.

During the televised announcement, Tong Yao described The Miracles as a fresh approach to storytelling, comparing it to a kaleidoscope where each story will possess its own unique style, potentially exploring diverse genres including science fiction.

Details remain scarce at the moment. The deadline for story submissions was March 31st, so we should expect more information to emerge in the coming months as the submitted materials are evaluated. It's likely that a script for the initial story is already under development, explaining the confirmed lead actors, director, and screenwriter.

I can't help but speculate that Tong Yao's involvement in With Love With You contributed to her invitation to participate in The Miracles. While it's a series that centres around the complicated relationship between two sisters Wang Yan and Wang Lingjun, the series is set in Shenzhen and one of its stated goals in the "wrap-up video" was to showcase the city and its entrepreneurial spirit.
