CCTV held a 开机 (start-of-production) event for The Miracles on 25
May, where they unveiled a more complete cast and crew list. The newly
announced actors linked to the project are impressive, including names like
Bai Yu, Lei Jiayin, and Song Jia.
They also released official promotional stills and video clips featuring the
cast and crew expressing their congratulations, although I wasn't able to find
many instances where they discussed the script or their characters.
As far as I can tell, this is all the confirmed information I was able to
find. By "confirmed," I mean that the information comes from an official
source, such as CCTV's official Weibo account.
Now for the unconfirmed details I came across on Weibo and XiaoHongShu. It
seems possible that this might be an anthology of 15-minute short stories,
each starring a different celebrity actor, with Hu Ge and Tong Yao leading
their own respective short stories. Although I did come across images
summarizing the plots of several short stories, I'll only share the one Tong
Yao is rumored to be in—with a HUGE caveat. This information comes from
XiaoHongShu, and I couldn’t find any corroborating details from CCTV's
official Weibo, so I can't verify its accuracy.
The source I'm citing is a Weibo post by the user 旺仔小锦鲤鱼, though similar
claims have appeared on several XiaoHongShu accounts. As you can tell, the
user name certainly doesn't sound like it's official. Still, I'll put a short
translation here for those who are interested but take it with a BIG pinch of
salt until more official information is released.
According to this user, Tong Yao will star in a short drama titled
The Piano of the City (literal translation). The story follows three
generations of a construction worker's family. Given that Tong Yao is starring,
it's safe to deduce she will play the protagonist, Lu Yuchun. This makes the
character a female construction worker, a compelling choice given that the
profession was predominantly male in that era.
Anyway, the story is about Lu Yuchun and her cherished friend Su Mingshu who
helped build Shenzhen's famous Guomao Building in the 1980s at the
record-breaking "Shenzhen Speed" of one floor every three days. She promised
to buy a piano for Su Mingshu, but was never able to. Forty years later, she
visits her granddaughter, Xiaoxiao, a talented young pianist in Shenzhen. As
they bond, Lu Yuchun finds a way to make up for her past regret by playing a
duet with Xiaoxiao on a public piano. The story flashes between past and
present, contrasting the grandmother who built the city's skyline with the
granddaughter who fills it with music, creating a tale of dreams passed across
generations.
Ultimately, while the story of The Piano of the City sounds
intriguing, we'll have to wait for an official announcement from CCTV to be
sure. The contrast between building a city and building a musical legacy is
powerful, and it could be a fantastic role for Tong Yao. I'll certainly be
looking forward to this.
