Hong Kong movie: Cesium Fallout 焚城 release announcement

Tong Yao’s management officially announced via Weibo today that she will be making a guest-starring appearance in the film.

The trailer actually looks more than decent, which makes me hopeful that it might be a fun movie to watch. I’m likely to watch this in the cinema simply because Tong Yao is in it. She hasn’t appeared in a film in years, and there is no clear indication that she’ll make a return to it. So I wouldn’t want to pass on an opportunity to see her on the big screen.

This Hong Kong-China co-production is directed by cinematographer-turned-director Anthony Pun and is slated for a 1st November release in China. Anthony Pun is both an experienced and award-winning cinematographer. Cesium Fallout is his third directorial effort. I’m not sure when it’ll screen in Singapore, but I expect that it will since the stars that headline this movie are pretty big names.

There is a spelling error in the English title. It should be “Caesium” and not “Cesium” since this movie is about a radioactive leak that puts the citizens of Hong Kong at risk. The specific chemical mentioned in the film is the radioactive isotope Caesium-137. Based on an interview with producer William Kong, the story is inspired by newspaper articles about the transportation of toxic electronic waste into Hong Kong and China and the hidden dangers it may pose to the environment and the lives of the residents living near it. I’m guessing that Caesium-137 was inevitably imported into Hong Kong and, for some reason, it resulted in an explosion in the recycling facility, which led to the leak.

Karen Mok plays the Acting Chief Executive of Hong Kong, and she’ll clash with a nuclear radiation expert played by Andy Lau about whether they should inform the citizens of Hong Kong of the radiation leak. Bai Yu plays a firefighter.

Hope it’s a good watch. Looking forward to this.

Here’s the trailer, enjoy.
